কোভিড -১৯ যৌনকর্মীদের জন্য একটি নতুন সমস্যা উপস্থাপন করেছে। স্বতঃস্ফূর্তভাবে যৌনকর্মগুলি তার প্রকৃতির সাথে ঘনিষ্ঠ এবং কর্মীরা যদি কাজ চালিয়ে যান তবে ভাইরাসের সংক্রমণের ঝুঁকি বেশি হয়। কিন্তু কাজ ছাড়াই, স্ট্রিপ ক্লাবগুলি ঘনিষ্ঠ হওয়ার সাথে সাথে ক্লায়েন্টরা কমে যায়, যৌনকর্মীরা বেঁচে থাকার জন্য লড়াই করে।

ইউরোপের অনেক দেশে, যৌন কর্মকে আইনী ব্যবস্থা যেমন "স্ক্যান্ডিনেভিয়ার মডেল" এর মাধ্যমে প্রত্যক্ষ বা অপ্রত্যক্ষভাবে অপরাধী করা হয় যা যৌন ক্রয়কে অবৈধ করে তোলে। যৌন কর্মীরা, যারা অনানুষ্ঠানিক অর্থনীতিতে কাজ করতে বাধ্য হন, তারা অন্যান্য শ্রমিকদের জন্য উপলব্ধ জরুরি সহায়তা থেকে নিজেকে বঞ্চিত মনে করেন।

ইউরোপে যৌনকর্মীদের অধিকার সম্পর্কিত আন্তর্জাতিক কমিটির (আইসিআরএসডব্লুই) একটি নতুন প্রতিবেদনে উল্লেখ করা হয়েছে যে এই মহাদেশের যৌনকর্মীরা "অর্থনৈতিক প্রান্তিকের" মধ্যে বাস করে এবং প্রায়শই পিছিয়ে যাওয়ার জন্য কম সঞ্চয় এবং সরকারী সমর্থন পেয়ে থাকে। তারা খুব কমই মহামারী প্রতিক্রিয়া এবং পুনরুদ্ধার পরিকল্পনা থেকে উপকৃত হচ্ছে। "

যৌনকর্মীরা প্রায়শই এমন গোষ্ঠী থেকে থাকে যারা ইতিমধ্যে অর্থনৈতিক ও সামাজিকভাবে প্রান্তিক, যেমন অনাবন্ধিত অভিবাসী, বর্ণের মানুষ এবং লেসবিয়ান, সমকামী, উভকামী এবং এলজিবিটি) লোক, যাদের মধ্যে কেউ কেউ সমকামিতার কারণে তাদের পরিবার থেকে দূরে চলে গেছে । যৌন কাজ, তাদের জন্য, খারাপদের মধ্যে একটি বিকল্প হতে পারে। আইসিআরএসডব্লিউই প্রতিবেদনে আরও পূর্বাভাস দেওয়া হয়েছে যে কঠোর অর্থনৈতিক সময়ের অর্থ আরও বেশি লোক যৌনকর্মে পরিণত হবে।
